173rd Commencement Exercise: A salute to the Graduates

Published on June 27th, 2015 | by DLSU Sports

DLSU salutes you for successfully finishing your college journey. While late, this is still what the men and women of DLSU Sports wish to tell the 21 athletes who graduated last Saturday after many years of bringing honor to DLSU.

While we once again realize that a congratulations from unknown faces might not mean much, we have once again taken the liberty of compiling messages from some of your teammates and closest friends to cherish the end of another chapter in your life. As you read the letters that are now posted before you, we hope you remember that this is more than a news article or a feature article but rather a collection of personal messages from those whom you have spent most of your time with during your college stay.

While for some of you this graduation may signal the end of your athletic journey in DLSU, we hope that you will always remember that your legacies will live on and remain in the hearts of the Lasallian community. Animo La Salle!

Ate Gel,

I’m probably the person who’s seen you struggle the most. Balancing your time with loads of acads and Animo Squad or even Team Pilipinas training and trying to keep up with your so-called “social life”, yet those sleepless nights led you to graduating with honors and I’m sure you have no regrets. The day of your baccalaureate mass you said “‘di ko ata deserve ‘to” and I just said “nandito ka na beh”. What I meant to say was, you’ve already made it through 3 hard years of your life successfully and you deserve all the blessings you could receive. I hope you stay humble and strong-willed despite all the struggles you will face and that you achieve all your dreams in life. I learned so much from you, Ate Gel! I hope you keep growing and that you continue to inspire other people as well. I love you so so so much!! Know that you’ll always have us to come home to. Congratulations and good luck in the real world!

Lots of love,

Wala nang magpapahype up ng mood sa training pag nagiging down na mga tao. Huhu.Love you ate gel!! Goodluck sa real world! I love you and I’ll miss you. God Bless.

It’s always sad to part ways with friends, but what’s even more sad is to say good bye to team mates. Team mates are not just friends, they’re family. Ate Marj, thank you for being the sister i’ve always hoped of having. Thank you for believing in me when i didn’t believe in myself and for when others doubted me as well. Training will be so quiet without you and we’ll surely miss your “kulitness”. I wish you all the best in what’s to come for you as you graduate. Always remember that you have a family, your team mates, that will be here to catch you and lift you up whenever you feel like falling. I love you Ate Marj!

To the king unicorn,
Congratulations on finally graduating and for getting the athletic award! I got no words for you man, hands down. You are one hell of a guy on and off the field. You are more just a teammate and a friend to all of us, especially to me and Dino. You showed leadership to all of us, showed us how to play, love and respect the sport we all love. We wouldn’t reach whatever we achieved playing for La Salle without your leadership and guidance. A great role model to all of our teammates. Thank you for your service captain! Congrats again on your graduation and as they say, welcome to the real world brotha!

-Luigi Nolasco

Happy Graduation King Unicorn! You are definitely going to be missed. Thanks for all the years of leadership and friendship that i went through with you dawg! You were nothing short of an awesome captain and that’s a fact! Glad i got close to the seniors and especially to you, dino, and noli. Thanks for welcoming each of us to the team with open arms and building around it eventually making it not only a brotherhood, but a family. God bless with all your future endeavors and stay awesome homie! You have a bright future ahead of you. Keep inspiring people around you like you always do bud! Till next time, THE Carly Laurel hahaha!”

Yo Carls, you and I have been through so much over these 23 years. From birth to college we’ve been by each other’s side through thick and thin. We’ve been all over the world toghether because of family trips and baseball. Our last 5 years we really got close (even closer than we already were), I don’t think of you as just a cousin, but more like a brother now. I’m so lucky to have played alongside you for so long and also lucky to have you as my captain these past 2 years. You taught me a lot of things, but the most important thing you taught me was to fight through adversity. Finishing college with decent grades and in decent time. Lots of people doubted you academically and you showed them wrong! I’m so proud of you man! I love you and congratulation on this milestone. Let’s get turnt on Satruday night!

I’m thankful to be your friend, colleague, partner in crime and an inspiration for me to work harder in order for me to recover from my injury. You inspired a lot of people to be the best student-athlete that they can be. Continue to inspire, motivate, touch hearts, improve, and don’t forget to have fun. See you at the next chapter in life! Hi Nico, Not many people in this world will realize their potential in their youth, but most people who are older don’t realize their potential either. Even though we all mature in our own paces, I know that in time you will grow into knowing more about yourself and how you yourself can be successful in life. Money is not the king but you are supposed to be the king over money and make the money work for you. That’s a bit of my own philosophy regarding the “money will make you happy” theories. Now that you have finally graduated, use every ounce of will that you have to pursue a dream that you have for yourself. What you see for yourself in 5 or 10 years. Your realistic goals and dreams will much up in the future once you have dedicated each day towards getting there. I only hope the best for you in your endeavors God Bless and Good Luck.

-Mickey Regala
DLSU Green Judoka

Nico! First of all, congratulations on your graduation! You finally made it! From Engineering to AB Psych! Shiftees Reprezent!! Haha Thinking about your journey, I’ve witnessed your struggle and hardships just to get where you are right now. It’s just sad that you have to leave the team already. But then again, I don’t wanna sound preachy but I know God has his own plans for all of us. Thank you for all the laughs, bonding and rape attempts. Thank you for recognizing me as your senior and your coach. But beyond the roles we both portray, what I treasure the most is us being friends. I wish you well in your future plans. Do remember that I’ll always be here for you. I’m just a text a way if you need anything. Wag lang monetray assistance. HAHA Again, Congratulations, Nico!

-Keith Ver
DLSU Green Judoka

Hey man I just want to say a few things, first and foremost thank you for being a great senior on the team, thank you for inspiring those players who are younger than me and likewise thanks for inspiring me as an athlete. Thanks for watching out for my health i.e. the “Oleta brothers stop smoking na hah” and the “last mo na to hah” to which I’ve followed most of the time naman. (can’t say the same for my bro tho) thanks for always being there to push my limit especially when it comes to cardio (although I would usually have most of you guys telling me to run faster lol T_T)

All jokes aside seeing you work as hard as you do it’s hard not to be inspired by the amount of effort and the amount of heart you put into your attempts. So again thank you for your time as being my co- captain and for graduating with a black belt! (well deserved I’d say) ‘cause probably for me the measure of a great judoka is not in how good he is at “making balibag” but rather in his ability to inspire, lift up, and look after his team mates. I’ve always taken one trait from all my senior players. With mickey being hard work, colin being patience, josh being explosiveness, W. Chia being playing smart. I’ve always thought you to be the guy who worked tirelessly at drills and uchikomi. You may not have been given the limelight for a large amount of time, but you acted as if you did. And it shows! What I’ll take from you is probably your dedication and passion for the sport. One last thing before I sign off I’d like to say this. Never stop pursuing greatness be relentless in your everyday life so that when shit comes your way. It’s just another day in the life of Nico Gosalvez That covers it, so again THANK YOU! And I’d no doubt be seeing you in the future, and you’d be seeing me winning that gold medal and leading the team to a general championship. That was a promise I made to all my seniors, now I make it to you! See you soon man!

-Ivan Oleta

Nico!!! Thank you for staying in the Judo team. I bet everyone knows all your effort for the team. Take care Mia. Hehe! Thank you too for being one of the few teammates na “OKAY”. Haha! Nico is one of the most caring, approachable, and supportive members of the team. Also known to be one of the funny guys, he never fails to bring smiles and laughter that lightens up everyone. His solid dedication and passion for the art of judo is very admirable. Nico will always be one of the people I look up to in Judo because he inspired me to give my best and train my hardest. I am very thankful to have a teammate like him and I am very proud of what he has done for the team and for everything he has accomplished in his stay. Congratulations! Time really do fly so fast. 3 years ago when I first met you upon entering the team, you’re one of the people na parang magaan yung loob ko at di ko alam bakit. Thank you for being one of the Ates that I had in the team and in college as well. Hehe.

Hi ate 3D Butiti. You have been a big part of my first two years in college. You never failed to become a good teammate and a friend. You are always ready to help and you never fail to make the people around you smile. Time passed by so fast and it is great looking back knowing that we made a lot of good memories together by traveling and enjoying our youth. Sobrang nakakaproud na a great friend of mine finally have a degree na in college. As you finally enter the real world, I hope you can still continue inspiring others by your perseverance and dedication to anything that you are supposed to do without giving a mediocre result. J

Congratulations, cyst! You’re finally done with one of the most important chapter of your life and now you’re off to the next one. It’s an honor though to be part of your life. I will forever keep the memories and experiences we made together. I am so proud of you and how you grew as a person. You are responsible and mature but knows how to have fun at the same time. I know that even tho I’ll be seeing you less, you’ll always be there no matter what. Hoping for more years of laughter and adventures with you, cyst. The DLSU Badminton Team will always be here when you need us. We are forever a family.

I just want to congratulate you for completing college. Ever since bata pa tayo, opposites talaga tayo in everything. Even though we fight a lot, we both know that we always got each other’s back. Maaga tayo naging independent sa parents natin. Give and take lang tayo para makasurvive. I wouldn’t be who I am today, if it weren’t for you. Truth to be told, sobrang dependent ako sayo kasi kailangan ko parati ng guide, and you were the perfect guide. I wish you good luck on your next step in life, hoping it will be successful. It’s your time to spoil me. Lol. Congrats and good luck #3dthemightytraveler.

College life was never easy, im glad that we shared a lot of ups and downs together during those days. It was really nice working with you. From the day that we trained ourselves to death, pushing the team as leaders, through those battles in the court up to those bottles of red horse, the victories we shared, stories and laughters we shared, will become a good memory that we will all surely reminisce in our “dad bod” stage! Haha You are well talented and passionate about volleyball, no doubt you’ll do great on your next career. Good luck to your next chapter in life and to your future endeavors. Keep safe and stay inspired.

TO OUR PAPA P: Thank you for your abs. Just kidding. Haha! Anyway, first of all, CONGRATS PAPA P! YOU MADE IT! Good luck out there in the real world where you’re sure to amaze everyone with not just your abs but also with everything that makes you, you. To our sprint king, thank you for everything you’ve contributed to the team, and I don’t mean all the medals and points but also the inspiration.

You’ve managed to defeat expectations and just push through everything during all your playing years. I’m so proud and privileged to have had you as a teammate and friend. Thank you for always being a not KJ person, for having fun with our nickname for you, for being humble and just all-around nice. Congrats Papa P! and good luck in the future you have before you. Don’t forget that I’ll always be here for you, as well as the team.

To my batchmate, congratulations!!! You’ve finally made it. Thank you for being such an inspiration to the team by showing us that hard work really is the key to success. For the past 5 years of being part of the team, you never really stopped persevering, a lot of people can get burnt out in the sport but you managed to still balance training twice a day and studying. You were once inspired by a lot of our teammates who were bagging a lot of medals back in the day, but now you have grown into that senior which everyone looks up to. Thank you also Papa P for sharing your positivity towards the team once in a while and goodluck in everything. You will always be the sprinter king that the Green tankers will always remember.

Congratulations, Pierce!! It’s been a long time since our first few days of summer training together with the DLSU swim team. We’ve come a long way and it’s a great feeling to see how far we’ve gone from where we started. I’m so proud to have been able to witness your many achievements in swimming- from getting into a couple of finals events and earning medals in relays to scoring your very own gold medal! I hope you bring that drive to succeed with you as you continue to live your life outside of the school. Congrats once again, and I hope to see you soon along with the rest of our teammates!

HI JHEG! Congratulations on finally graduating! Haha! I just wanna wish you luck in your next steps, in finding work, in going for another one of your passions much like you did with swimming throughout college. I am so lucky to have had you as one of my teammates not just because of your strength as a swimmer but also because of your strength as a person. You fought even when faced with doubt and I’m sure that’s something not just I got inspiration from. Thank you for being happy, Jheg. You’re that person who not only knows how to make people laugh but also that person who can laugh at himself. I hope that as you leave DLSU, you keep that person you’ve grown into and share it with even more others because they deserve to know the Jheg we’ve always known and loved. Good luck Jheg!!

Congrats, Jheg!! I’m glad to see that you’re finally graduating after all those years in college. You went into the team as one of the youngest people in our batch so I understand it must have been a challenge for you to interact with the older people in the team. It’s great to see how much you have grown as a person since those days and also watch your fast swims in the UAAP. Thanks for being a good friend to me and to many others in the team as well as for your ability to make us laugh in the craziest ways. God bless and see you again soon with the rest of our teammates!

Congratulations Erika! Now college is done for you, on to law school next! Im very grateful to be part of the swim team, specially that it gave me a sister like you that i know will last even outside the pool. You always knew how to make everybody smile and turn our bad days a better one. I will never forget all our memories together. To my teammate/ batchmate/ roommate/ and good friend, Erika,

Congratulations!!! Your hard work finally paid off!! Hehe! I think everyone will agree with me when i say it’s well deserved! All those sleepless nights, just to be able to finish your academic requirements; Those exhausting mornings just to attend your training sessions. We both know it was an effort to do two things simultaneously but you manage to excel in both area! And i also would like to thank the friendship we were able to have. I was able to learn a lot from you. And i don’t think the same goes for the team. We won’t forget your cheerfulness, your words if wisdom, and even your corny jokes! Hehe! May you continue to be an inspiration to others! Good luck to your chosen career and God bless! Know that if you need anything, i’m just one call away! Love you, ratt!!

EV DON’T LEAVE US!! Just kidding. Congrats EV! I’m so proud of you. Graduating Honorable Mention, a strong swimmer, the go-to fun girl, and one of the bestest friends a girl could have. You have no idea how much you’ve taught me especially during random kwento sessions e.g. team building 2012 while everyone was out hiking and you, me, and Sam stayed in the room. Thank you so much for everything, EV. You’ve always been that kind of (party) light with your endless energy and strong personality. Even stronger is your will to have fun and make sure that everyone else is enjoying with you. I wanna wish you luck in law school! You’ll be one hell of a lawyer, I’m sure of it. Study sessions tayo in the future ah HAHA Love you, EV. PS. May naiwan ka sa DLSU… (alam mo na yan)

Congratulations ate Erika! From day one, you made me feel welcome to the point where I felt like we’ve been friends for a long time. You were not just a friend but also like an older sister to me. There are people in our lives who we try to inspire and those who inspire us. For me, you were an inspiration and my idol not just in the pool but also in my studies. Thank you for all the laughs that we’ve shared and for guiding me through my first year. I hope that this next chapter is going to be everything you want it to be and more because you deserve it. The swim team will never be the same without you. I love you always and will definitely miss you. Good luck and God Bless in everything that you do.

Hi Kits, CONGRATULATIONS!! You’re finally off to the real world tho I’m still confused if artista or insurance agent… HEHE. Anyway captain, thank you for being our favourite molerat. Thank you for all the laughs, the drinks, the heart-to-hearts, the trainings, the laboracays and everything else we’ve been through. We don’t always see eye-to-eye and we’ve had our fair share of fights but ya know we still make it through as friends haha! You’ve been such a big part of my stay in DLSU, Kits and I just wanna thank you. Thank you also for always being unapologetically yourself. Even though sometimes sakit mo sa ulo cause of your stubbornness, in the end it always boils down to the fact that you know who you are and the things you stand for. I hope that you carry that with you all the way to Manulife and whatever else may come your way. You’re a leader, we all know that. You affect people even with just small things and that’s something you should be aware of and something you should always use in a good way. You taught me that, remember? Thanks for that, Kits. You know what I’m talking about.

Soo… GOOD LUCK, KITS. You’ve got great things ahead of you but don’t forget to always visit and buy us a bucket or two Haha! Love you, Kits.
