Green Booters secure their first game of the season against FEU, 3-1.
The De La Salle University Green Booters opened their Season 80 campaign with a thrilling win against the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 3-1, on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
The Tamaraws scored the first goal of the game at the 22nd minute of the first half. The Green Booters continued to attack until dynamic player Matthew Custodio delivered their first goal. Custodio made it at the 35’ mark. The last ten minutes of the first half were then filled with numerous attempts from both parties. However, none was successful to increment their scores as the first half ended, 1-1.
In the second half, the Green and Gold continued to attack with empowered hearts. Every attempt from the Morayta-based squad was denied by the Taft-based squad’s mighty defense. At the 77th minute, Lawless tangoed with the ball from Jed Diamante and scored La Salle’s second goal, to the delight of the green crowd. But just a minute after that and before the celebration has even ended, Koizumi delivered another goal for the Green Booters, giving them a two-point lead, 3-1. Defensively, Coach Hans’ team played like a well-oiled machine working together to maintain their lead. The game was extended by four minutes, but the Tamaraws seemed to have run out of gas, as the Green Booters marched on to a 3-1 victory.
Matthew Custodio, who delivered one of his best performances, was named as the man of the match. He was scoring and defending at both ends of the game.
