The De La Salle Lady Spikers overpowered the UST Golden Tigresses after winning in straight sets, 25-21, 25-9, and 25-18 earlier today at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
In the first set, the Lady Spikers managed to control the lead over the Tigresses as they delivered powerful attacks mostly coming from team captain, Ara Galang. While UST proved to have strong net defense, La Salle was quick to adjust with their floor defense as they won the set, 25-21.
In the second set, UST trailed La Salle by as much as nine points at the second technical timeout, resulting from strong attacks, service aces, effective blocking and good reception. They eventually pulled away to get the second set, 25-9.
Not losing momentum, the Taft based squad continued to dominate UST in the third set with their strong hits coming from Ara Galang and Majoy Baron, who both played superb games today, with 17 and 8 points respectively, as they ended the set, 25-18.
With this, the Lady Spikers improved their record to 10-1 and are looking to extend their winning streak this second round as they face the University of the East Lady Warriors next Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
