DLSU Lady Shuttlers notch second straight win

The De La Salle University Lady Shuttlers displayed their impeccable skills as they smashed away the National University Lady Shuttlers, 4-1, in the ongoing Season 78 Women’s Badminton tournament at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Kristelle Salatan and Alyssa Leonardo’s duo sealed the victory for the ladies in Green and White as they beat the Sampaloc-based squad’s tandem of Amica Duay and Loverly Magallano in a three-set showdown, 21-8, 19-21, 21-11.

Rookie Anghela Sevilla recovered from her opening day loss with a 2-0 domination of Jiselle Capillo giving the Lady Shuttlers a 2-0 lead.

Rising star Ariane Rivera drew first blood for the Taft-based squad as she shot daggers into NU’s Amica Duay and came away with a 2-0 victory, 21-13 21-16.

The tandem of Aires Montilla and Anghela Sevilla kept the Lady Bulldogs at bay after they outwitted Jiselle Capillo and Marinel Dionsay, 21-9 21-17.

Another rookie, Lindsay Tercias fell short against Loverly Magallano but did not gave up without a fight as she tallied a 17-point performance on both sets.

“Ang sabi ko sa kanila mag-focus lang. Nagkaroon lang ng konting adjustments kasi may mga pinahinga kaming players,” Coach Owen Lopez marveled. “Medyo bumaba yung performance nila ngayon, mas aggressive sila kahapon. I hope tuloy-tuloy nila iyong nasimulan,” he added.

Coach Lopez emphasized that their focus is to work as a team and not to rely their confidence in one player.

The Lady Shuttlers will duel against the University of the Philippines on September 23 at same venue.
