The DLSU Lady Tennisters fell victim to UST 2-3. The UAAP 78 Lawn Tennis tournament occurred earlier at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center. The Lady Tennisters worsen their record to 1-1.

The tournament started with the matchup of Ana Atangan of DLSU against Kendies Malinis of UST. Atangan had a rough start to the match as Malinis was able to capture the momentum early. It was obvious that throughout the match Atangan couldn’t keep up with Malinis. The Lady Tennister gave her best efforts but Malinis was just too much for her. The first singles match ended with UST on top by winning two straight sets to claim the match. (3-6, 1-3).

The second match was a doubles match between Anne Castillo and Nikki Arandia of DLSU and Genevieve Caorte and Macy Gonzalez of UST. During the first set, the DLSU duo had to bow down to their counterparts (3-6). The first set appeared more as a feeling out period for DLSU. They were then able to storm back and greatly overcame UST. In the second match, both a Lady Tennisters were on fire as they were able to win by five points (6-1). They then carried the momentum and continued their massive play in the third game. The DLSU Duo was able to seal the game and defeat the UST combo in three sets (6-2).

The third match of the tournament was a singles matchup between Khyshana Hitosis of DLSU and Precian Rivera of UST. The first set was a very close one between the two. Both players answered every rally they threw at each other. Hitosis showed her brilliance as she was able to brush off Rivera in the end 7(3)-6. The first set proved to be crucial since Hitosis appeared tired for the rest of the match. The match ended with Rivera on top in the next two sets(1-6, 2-6).

The fourth matchup was a doubles match. The matchup was between Jenni Dizon and Jed Aquino of DLSU and Ingrid Gonzales and Mae Gitalan of UST. The Taft-based squad wasn’t able to make a huge impact in the match. From the first set until the second, UST had control of the match. The match ended swiftly in two sets (3-6, 3-6)

All hope was lost as UST has lead the tournament with three wins. Even in this situation, the Lady Tennisters still chose to fight. The last matchup was a singles match between Marinel Rudas of DLSU and Erika Manduriao of UST. Rudas played in an explosive manner throughout the match. She won the first set (6-2) for DLSU and easily crippled her opponent. As the second set came, she instantly sealed with a 6-0 win. Though she won impressively, it doesn’t change the fact that UST still leaves the tennis center with the win.

All in all, UST won 53 games compared to DLSU’s 47. UST was up by two sets against DLSU 7-5. And the three out of the five matches were won by UST thus giving them the win. The Lady Tennisters still gave their all even in defeat. Their next game will be on February 6, 2016 at the same venue.
