September 6 marks the day DLSU Green Archers open its Season 78 campaign against NU Bulldogs inside the MOA Arena. Starting with a different line-up of a mixed roster of rookies and veterans, Coach Juno and the team showed what they’re made of during the match.

1st Quarter

The team’s starting line-up was composed of Thomas Torres, Abu Tratter, Jason Perkins, Jeron Teng, and rookie Andrei Caracut. National University earned the first points of the game, but the Green Archers quickly answered. With the team’s ferocious start, Jeron Teng, Thomas Torres, Julian Sargent, and Prince Rivero earn points to push the team’s lead. National University also brought on their game, however the Green Archers crashed the boards which enabled them to handle the ball more often than the opposing team. The first quarter ended with DLSU in the lead 16-6.

2nd Quarter

During the second quarter DLSU’s Julian Sargent scored the first two, but National University’s Javelona got back the two. Making his first impression, rookie Andrei Caracut scored his first triple but National University’s Aroga countered this with a two followed by a basket by his teammate Diputado. Before and after the timeout Jason Perkins slipped in a two and a three further increasing the team’s score. National University, earned freethrows enabling them to catch up. With each team’s strong fighting spirit, they did not give way to each other scoring. Before the second quarter ends Andrei Caracut scored a three followed by a two. The End score is 33-23 with the Green squad on top.

3rd Quarter

Opening up the third quarter the NU Bulldogs snatched the first score, followed by another two. It was a very difficult battle for both teams caused by pressure and fatigue. Through strong Animo spirit, DLSU scored layups consecutively plus Caracut’s three pointer, now with the score 43-30 in favor of DLSU. Sargent unfortunately draws a foul, that boosted NU’s points decreasing the difference to 9 points. This was then followed up by NU’s Neypes’ three pointer. Ending the third quarter Jeron and Rivero brought back four points in the team score. Quarter ended with the score, 51-40 DLSU still in the lead.

4th Quarter

NU gained two threes at the start narrowing the gap. Abu Tratter quickly regained this through freethrow points. Andrei Caracut and Jason Perkin’s teamwork gained adavanatage , widening the gap. The next few minutes of the quarter made the audience grab on to their seats, because of the narrowing of point difference between the two teams. This was due to fouls and ball handling errors. National University heated up the game with their fierce chase, making the score 60-58 entering the last two minutes of the quarter. However, the team sprung back on top with their focus. Jason Perkins, Jeron Teng , Julian Sargent, and Prince Rivero’s perseverance earned the team enough point to bag the victory of their first matchup this UAAP season 78. Final score 67-63.

Who’s Next?

National University’s fast improvements or developments with their team, make them undeniably one of the team’s to look out for this UAAP season. The De La Salle Green archers will surely train harder to bring home the bacon. With impressive performance from the rookies especially Andrei Caracut’s three pointers, earned him the second highest score next to his senior Jason Perkins. Next game will be on September 9 to be held at Smart Araneta Coliseum at 2pm against the UP Fighting Maroons.
