The DLSU Lady Booters triumphed over their Ateneo counterparts during their opening day matchup. The Lady Booters finished the game with the score 4-3 courtesy of Inquig, Arthur, and Castañeda goals. The game was held at the Emperador Stadium last February 7

The DLSU Lady Booters had a very competitive duel with the Ateneo Lady Booters as they answered each other’s goals throughout the game. The first twenty minutes of the game was already fast-paced action coming from both sides. Ateneo kicked off the game with two early attempts to goal, those attempts were easily blocked by Metillo. Lady Booters Inquig and Castañeda tried to take shots but weren’t successful against Ateneo’s defense. Meanwhile, the aggressive play was prevalent early in the game. Two yellow cards were already given to Booters Arthur and Duran before any goals were even made.

The first goal came from DLSU’s Inquig during the 20th minute. Navaja dribbled down the wing as she maneuvered past the defenders. She then passed it to Arthur who then gave it back to Inquig for the goal. Up by 1-0, Lady Booter Metillo then involved herself in a scuffle against her opponent. ADMU was then rewarded a penalty in which they were able to capitalize on it. The Katipunan-based squad tied up the game around the 29th minute and then added another one to their score by the 39th minute. Halftime came with Ateneo up by one goal, 1-2.

A few minutes after the halftime break, Lady Booter Andaya caused a ruckus in Ateneo’s defense. With that, Ateneo gave an own goal to Andaya, the score then is tied up 2-2. Inquig and Arthur were at it again as they scored another goal in the 68th minute. Inquig gave a good through ball to Arthur who then took it first time and made the wide open goal. They increased the score for the Taft-based team to 3-2.

By the 85th minute mark, ADMU came back against DLSU as they made a counterattack which then resulted to a goal. This made the score 3-3 and everyone was at the edge of their seats. As the 90th minute mark came, officials added three more minutes in the ball game. It was obvious that the Lady Booters wanted to leave the field with a win and not a draw.

In what was a wild game, the matchup also ended in the same fashion. As the game entered the 92nd minute, the game looked like it was about to end in a draw. However, Lady Booters Arthur and Castañeda thought otherwise. As Arthur dribbled past her opponents she found an open Castañeda near the box. Arthur then passed it to Castañeda and was able to shoot another wide open goal for La Salle. The goal came in the 93rd minute, a few moments just as the game came to a close. As the Lasallian crowd  grew wild, the Lady Booters took the victory with the score 4-3.

The DLSU Lady Booters had a very exciting start to their season after battling it out early with their heated rivals. They will next face FEU, February 13 at the same venue.
