Green Archers kept the Animo burning as final four draws near

The UAAP Season 78 Men’s basketball elimination round is almost over and the De La Salle University Green Archers are slowly booking their ticket to the Final Four after defeating the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 72-68, this November 11, at the Big Dome.

In the last five minutes of the game, the Green side’s pace turned intense as they forcefully cut the Maroons’ lead with a 9-0 run which put away UP for good. Just before the victory, the Green Archers struggled in the third quarter as the Maroons were led by their aggressive trio, Manuel, Dario and Longa which ended with a score of 52-49. Although team captain Jeron Teng made a great effort in this quarter after continuously making his shots, it was not enough to take this quarter into the Archers’ hands.

Teng together with his handymen Thomas Torres and Prince Rivero took the first half of the game. They were unstoppable in heating the field in the second quarter but the Maroons ended it with a tight match, 27-26. The reigning star Joshua Torralba broke the silence with a stunning shot from the rainbow county, 46 seconds after the tip off. It also helped the Green Archers keep up their confidence and grabbed the first quarter with a 13-point lead, 19-6.

As predicted, the Teng-Rivero-Torres trio as mentioned above led the Green Archers with a double digit finish, 20, 18, and 11 points, respectively. They also made incredible double rebounding points during their time. Clearly the Taft-based squad started and ended the game with a bang, not giving up as they take one step closer to the Final Four spot.

Now, the Green Archers, together with the NU Bulldogs are tied at the fourth spot with a 6-7 win-loss card in the tourney. La Salle will next face current number one squad, the FEU Tamaraws in a crucial matchup on November 18, 4pm at the Araneta Coliseum.
