Green Archers lambast UST for second straight victory

The long break did not ice the De La Salle University Green Archers as they absolutely crushed University of Santo Tomas, 110-69, in an unfamiliar venue of Ynares Center, Antipolo in the second round meeting of UAAP Season 81 of the two teams on Saturday.

After a favorable first round meeting that saw the Green Archers trample UST, 99-72, it was no different this time around, as the Green and White asserted their sheer dominance on the court.

The first quarter was all indications of a good offensive outing for La Salle. A jumper from Justine Baltazar tailgated a fast 8-0 start for DLSU. The Growling Tigers were able to retaliate with a couple of three-point plays from CJ Cansino and Marvin Lee. DLSU responded with 11 straight points, highlighted by a duo of Aljun Melecio triples to balloon the lead, 19-6. The first frame ended at 29-13, with Melecio and Caracut combining for 15 points.

Coming off the halftime break, La Salle managed to further bury UST with their red-hot shooting. The Tigers did not score their first point of the second half until the 4 minute mark with Batalier going 1/2 from the line. Jollo Go responded with two straight triples, giving UST absolutely no breathing room. Mark Dyke concluded the quarter with a triple of his own, extending the lead to an astounding 84-40. La Salle scored 34 points in the quarter while only giving up 9.

The huge third quarter barrage set up La Salle for a dismantling of the opponents, with the final scxore being 110-69.

At 110, DLSU recorded the highest scoring output among all teams this season. This comes with a terrific outing from the field at a 38/71 clip. Threes were also falling, with 53% of 28 launched from downtown falling.

Aljun Melecio bannered the scoring downpour for La Salle, connecting on 22 points paired with 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Justine Baltazar and Andrei Caracut partnered with 28 points. Jollo Go poured in 14 points, and was in the zone from beyond the arc at 3/4 shooting. Encho Serrano’s continued upward trajectory stayed true as he scored a cool 13 points in 17 minutes of action.

For the Growling Tigers, there were only two lone scorers in double digits. Marvin Lee topscored for UST with 26 points, including 5 triples. Rookie of the Year favorite CJ Cansino added 14 points and 9 rebounds.
