Green Booters settle at 4th place after Final Four loss to Fighting Maroons
The De La Salle University Green Booters fell short against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 0-1, in the Semifinals of the UAAP Season 80 Men’s Football Tournament at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, Thursday.
The game started off hot as early attempts came from both sides. After a series of passes, La Salle’s defense remained tight as goal-keeper Paeng De Guzman stood strong to keep the base clean.
The Green and White exhibited eagerness as early as the 1st minute after a yellow card was shown to Nicko Villacin. Despite the strife, the game went on and kicks kept coming from both teams up to the 6th minute mark. At the 30th, Yoshiharu Koizumi cleared a UP ball away from the danger zone.
Both fields were fiery but remained scoreless as they tried to pinch in a goal by the end of the first half.
The second half intensified quickly when Kyle Magdato scored a goal for the Maroons at the 47th minute.
La Salle tried to bounce back offensively, but they could not get anything going.
The Green Booters reached full-time goalless, while the Fighting Maroons clinched the spot for the Finals seat.
UP advances on with the UST Growling Tigers after a 1-0 semifinal victory against the ADMU Blue Eagles.
The Finals between UP and UST will be on March 3, Thursday, 3 PM at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
