(Photo by Karl Dela Cruz) The De La Salle University (DLSU) Woodpushers absorbed losses in the opening day of the UAAP Season 82 Chess Tournament earlier at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

The Green Woodpushers bowed to the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws, 1.5-2.5. On the other hand, the Lady Woodpushers, defending champions of the tournament, also lost to the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Lady Eagles, 1.5-2.5.

Rookies Daniel Lemi and Kris Olvido each dropped their season-opening matches, while team captain Tristan Ibaoc figured in a draw. On a bright side, Francis Guimalan provided the Green Woodpushers a win.

The defending champions suffered a similar fate as only Marie San Diego led the Green-and-White to a victory. Team captain Ella Moulic’s match fell short and resulted in a draw. Franchell Javier and Samantha Revita also lost to their opponents.

Action will continue tomorrow, September 15, 1 PM at the same venue for the DLSU chess teams as they seek to break the win column. The Green Woodpushers will take on UST, while the Lady Woodpushers will face UP.
