Green Shuttlers continue winning streak against UST, 3-2.

After five consecutive wins, the Green shuttlers faced another tough battle against UST in hopes of continuing their winning streak.

Green Shuttler Sibayan went up against UST counterpart Pantig in the first singles matchup. The first set didn’t go so well for the Green team, closing it with a tally of 21-11, UST.

It seemed like the first set’s loss served as a wake up call for the Green shuttler as he was able to pick up the pace and created an intense battle with the Golden shuttler. His efforts didn’t go to waste as the Taft-based player conquered the set, 21-15.

The determining set consisted of intense smashes and relentless rallies from both patries, trying to fight for their first win. It was indeed one close fight with both teams responding quickly to each point. However, the Espana-based player still managed to outscore the Taft-based player, 20-22.

Monterubio was brought to the court to vie against Sotea in the second singles matchup. In the first set, Sotea was able to pull ahead of the Green Shuttler, sealing the set with a 16-21 win. The next set didn’t yield any improvement for the Green team as Monterubio failed to redeem his loss, giving the Golden Shuttler another 16-21 win.

The first doubles matchup consisted of a Sibayan-Cayanan tandem for the Green team and a Panitig-Reyes duo for the Yellow team. The Taft-based team stumbled on the first set, 15-21, in favor of UST. However, Sibayan came back to the court with a thirst for vengeance, attacking his opponents with stronger smashes. The Golden Shuttlers managed to get back on their feet, exhibiting yet another close game against the Green and White. The Green Shuttlers did not let their guard down, thwarting UST’s effort to dismantle them. With DLSU’s consistent efforts, they dominated the last 2 sets, 25-23, 26-24, respectively.

For the second doubles matchup, the Monterubio brothers represented the Green team and Sotea and Barrios for the Yellow team. The DLSU Green Shuttlers were on a roll, scoring a 7-0 at the start of the game. The Green and White maintained their great play, conquering the first set with a 21-10.

The UST Golden Shuttlers didn’t go down without a fight, upping their game that resulted in a neck and neck battle in the second set. With both teams having the same detemination to win, it was hard to imagine who deserved to win more. In the end, Green Shuttlers proved themsevles worthy with hard-fought score of 26-24.

The final battle between DLSU’s Cayanan and UST’s Sabanal started with Cayanan leading by 12 points. With Cayanan’s quick reflex and agile moves, this lead continued on until the end of the set, 8-21, DLSU.

The final set showcased Sabanal improving his game in order to avenge the team’s loss, but this did not faze Cayanan as he dominated the final set, 21-19, giving the team a 3-2 win-loss record.
