Opening the UAAP Season 78, the Green Shuttlers of De La Salle University had a blazing start against the UP Maroons at PSC Rizal Memorial Stadium with a 4-1 win.

Kenneth Monterubio marked the first game by drilling a  6-point lead on both sets against Lorenzo Miguel Leonardo of the UP Maroons.  Next to play for the singles division for DLSU, Anton Cayanan, failed to own the first set losing by eight points . The Green Shuttler managed to win in the second set, 21-19, then went on to capture the third set 21-18.

The tandem of Gerald Sibayan and Kenneth Monterubio showcased a great rally against the UP Maroons regardless of their loss. The match was intense and the La Salle duo kept up with the pace of UP, unfortunately they fell short.

Anton Cayanan teaming up with Jericson Obaob took a vengeance to dismantle Pineda and Manuel via a 21-11, 14-21, 21-18, win in the second doubles match.

“Hindi ko iniisip na panalo na kami. Ang target naming ay mag focus per game. Kelangan naming manalo each game.” Team Captain, Elijah Boac, shared his thoughts before his match, knowing that the team was already up to 3-1 against the University of the Philippines.

The UP Maroons tried to give a statement match to the veteran and team captain, but the Green Shuttler delivered a remarkable fight during the last singles match, 19-21, 22-20, 21-19.

The De La Salle University Green Shuttlers will next face against the soaring Adamson Falcons at 8 in the morning, still at PSC Rizal Memorial Stadium.
