Green Spiker Carlo Sendo: Looking to establish mark in the volleyball field

Volleyball is one sport highlighted in the UAAP games and is played during the second half of the league. During the first part of the collegiate games, its outdoor counterpart or more commonly known as beach volleyball is also one event being looked upon by the lovers of the sport. This year, our Green Spikers features Carlo Sendo, who has waited for four years and is ready to show his talents in the sands.

Sendo is an ID 111 AB-OSDM student and expresses his excitement in the games.

Back in Season 77, the Green Spikers ended their Beach Volleyball games on a disappointing winless record. This time around, Carlo looks to help the team in making their push in the top of the standings and make noise in the beach volleyball scene.

“Aim namin umangat at hindi makasama sa bottom. Sabi nga nila, there’s no way but up. Medyo may pressure samin kasi kailangan talaga namin mag aim high. Sana maka final four.”

Despite having limited time in practicing the sport outdoor with his crew, Sendo mentioned that they maximize every minute during practices and states that his team has a great time chemistry-wise.

“Maganda yung chemistry. If nagttraining kami, kahit kunwari tatlong oras lang, sobrang sulit kasi marami kaming natututunan.” he says.

Sendo is also a training player for the Philippine SuperLiga team, Champion Infinity which added to his experience and love for playing the outdoor sport. In his first year playing in the UAAP, he adds his goal is to contribute all he’s got for the improvement of the Green Spikers.

He stresses “Expect niyo sakin na every game all-out. Siyempre first time ko, matagal ko ng gusto maglaro ng UAAP. Expect niyo din na if matalo, sobrang magiging tough at i-aim namin na makapunta sa championship pero goal muna is final four.”

The men’s volleyball scene is usually overshadowed by the Women’s division due to the latter’s more exposure in the media. However, this is not a factor for the fourth year(played 3 years in UAAP Athletics) as he feels that the Men’s games are slowly making it’s mark and at the end of the day, it’s still on how you play the game that matters.

“Kaming mga players naman focused kami sa laro, Kung may blessings man na dumating sa men’s volleyball, which is now nagbo-boom na paunti-unti, di kami magmamadali at walang inggit na makita para talaga sa development ng team”

As a new face in the La Salle team, the former Athletics and high school basketball varsity says that he wants to make good on all the chances given to him. Looking ahead, Sendo mentioned the importance of having a positive personality that can affect the team plays for better results. “Gusto ko maalala nila ako sa personality ko sa paglalaro. Nandun naman yung gusto namin mag-champion pero iba pa din yung maiiwan mong personality sa team. Maging inspiration sa iba” he closed out.
