Green Spikers succumb to Adamson and UST in day three beach volley

The De La Salle University Green Spikers failed to register a win in both of their outings against Adamson University Soaring Falcons and University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers on Day Three of the UAAP Season 78 Beach Volleyball Tournament held at the SM Sands by the Bay.

Running out of gas

Green Spiker-duo Carlo Sendo and Levin Dimayuga showed signs of brilliance in their first game but fell into the hands of the Adamson University Soaring Falcons in straight sets, 10-21 and 14-21.

In the first set, the Taft-based squad seemed to be tentative in their approach wherein the Adamson duo of Michael Sudaria and Rence Melgar capitalized and managed to pull an 8-1 run mostly from their attacks. The Green-and-White tried to tame the San Marcelino-squad but they were just on fire as they displayed a strong performance coming from both their offensive and defensive end. The Green Spikers having no means of extinguishing the Adamson attacks dropped the first set, 10-21.

Sendo and Dimayuga fought back in the second set as they nabbed the momentum from Adamson earlier in the set. The La Salle duo sparked and made a 4-0 run in which two came from Adamson’s lifting violation and net block. However, the tandem of Sudaria and Melgar was able to equalize at 10-all and handed the Green Spikers a three-point deficit. Sendo and Dimayuga tried to push themselves in scoring more points but Adamson was just consistent in their game play handing La Salle’s loss in the second set with the score of 14-21.

The Taft-based squad submits to the authority of the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers as they were drubbed in straight sets for their second match-up of the day, 12-21 and 14-21.

The Green Spikers found it hard to penetrate into the stronghold of their UST counterparts Anthony Arbasto and Kris Guzman in the first set. The Espana-based squad led throughout the first set and showed the Green-and-White their versatility when it comes to their offensive plays. UST displayed a variety of attacks from cut shots to power hits which made it hard for Sendo and Dimayuga to read. The Taft-based squad bowed to UST in the first set with the score of 12-21.

In the second set, the scenario did not differ from the first. However, Green Spikers Sendo and Dimayuga did not want the duo of Arbasto and Guzman to snatch the game from them easily. They also showed their UST counterparts a combination of well-placed shots and spikes. It was the Green-and-White’s inconsistency in their attacks that haunted them and cost them the second set, 14-21.

The Green Spikers are currently tied with UP in the sixth seed with 1-4 win-loss slate. They will face off with the National University Bulldogs on Friday, October 16, 9:00 AM at the same venue.
