La Salle outshines San Beda to barge into PCCL Finals

Yet another chance for championship glory awaits the Green Archers.

The Green Archers showed yet another inspiring performance after outworking the San Beda Red Lions in the team’s gritty 64-60 win last December 12 at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

“More than the result, it’s the experience of playing a team like them. [They’re the] NCAA Champion, a very strong team for how many years already, well-coached and just by playing them, the experience alone, the players learn a lot, [and] I get to learn something here and there,” shared DLSU Head Coach Juno Sauler after the game.

Jeron Teng scored a game-high 23 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 4 assists while Jason Perkins chipped in a double-double with 15 markers and 14 boards. In addition, Almond Vosotros added 12 points and 5 rebounds.

On the other hand, Art Dela Cruz led the Red Lions with 19 points and 5 rebounds while Baser Amer had 15 points and 3 assists. Furthermore, Ola Adeogun tallied in 14 points and 13 boards.

With this win, the Archers will now face the SWU Cobras for the championship. The best-of-three series will kick-off this Monday, December 16, at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

“Southwestern University is a very strong team. They play very hard, they play very tough. We just have to review what we did wrong and what we can take advantage of. Hopefully, we can execute the game plan,” Sauler added.

With both teams stuck at neutral for the most part of the game, La Salle finally got the upper hand after making timely baskets midway through the final quarter.

With the team trailing 53-58, Teng’s layup jumpstarted an 11-5 run to effectively seize the lead.

Vosotros and Perkins would later place the icing on the cake as both of them hit clutch baskets to put away the Red Lions for good.

The scores:

DLSU (64) – Teng 23, Perkins 15, Vosotros 12, N. Torres 6, Salem 4, T. Torres 2, Bolick 2, Montalbo 0, Van Opstal 0, Tampus 0.
