(Photo by Trinity Matias) The De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Archers ended their losing skid after a strong showing against the University of the East (UE) Lady Red Warriors, 91-58, earlier today, September 14, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Coming off a crushing defeat at the hands of the Lady Bulldogs the previous game, the Lady Archers swung for the fences in this match. Right from the starting tip, the Green-and-White blasted UE. A basket coming from Benette Revillosa opened up the scoresheet for DLSU. The points continued to pile up for the green shirts as they buried the Lady Warriors in a 15-point deficit. The barrage was capped by a three from Vea Malarde to make it 15-0 in the first three minutes of the game. UE tried to regain their footing but were unable to stop the hot start of DLSU. Despite the buzzer-beater make, they found themselves in a 10-point hole, 16-26.
The Lady Archers continued to showcase their offensive chops in the second frame while the Lady Warriors continued to struggle. The lead ballooned to 16, 45-29, coming into the break. From then on, the outcome of this match was never really in doubt. With them in the driver’s seat, the Lady Archers stepped on the pedal and never looked back, making quick work of UE to end the match on a blowout, 91-58.
Spearheading the scoring department for DLSU for the third time in four outings was rookie Kent Pastrana, who finished with 20 points on 3/6 shooting from downtown. The super rookie received help from her teammates as well, with Malarde, Quingco, and Revillosa adding 15, 14, and 12, respectively.
