Lady Archers snipe down Lady Maroons, remain undefeated

The DLSU Lady Archers improved their win loss record to 4-0 in the UAAP Season 76 Women’s Basketball Tournament as they defeated the UP Fighting Lady Maroons, 59-39, last July 14 at the Arena in San Juan.

“I credit this win for the defense of our team. We made good defensive stops which was key to our win today, but like I said to the team, we must not relax and still be focused on our goals for the season,” said head coach Tyrone Bautista after the game.

Ara Abaca put up a double-double performance with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Miller Ong and Trisha Piatos combined for 12 points.

Defensive stops from all angles of the hardcourt was the key to the victory of the Lady Archers as they limited UP to just 11 points in the 4th quarter which allowed the Lady Archers to blast out and seal the victory. Lady Archer forward Ara Abaca made the killer jumper with 2:16 left to seal the game for the Green and White.

Early on, the game was a nearly close as each team returned each basket with one another. UP center Patricia Tatel scored multiple shots in the paint to aid the Maroons cause to catch up and make the game close up to the third quarter but was to no avail. She finished with a game high 10 points and 13 rebounds to lead all UP scorers.

Lady Archer Alyanna Ong was the main catalyst most of the Lady Archers 1st half run where she shot 4 out 10 from the field and gave DLSU a commanding lead entering the second half. She finished with 10 points.
