Lady Batters bow to Lady Bulldogs in Season Opener
The De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Batters suffered a setback against the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs, 2-10, to kick start their season campaign in the UAAP Season 78 Women’s Softball Tournament at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium, yesterday.
Asked if he was satisfied with the performance of his crew in the opening-day loss, Coach Alex Estipular was quick to answer, “Ah hindi, hindi kami satisfied sa nagperform sila, kase yung pitcher natin hindi nasuportahan ng palo eh, yun ang naging ano kaya ang tama nila untimely, hindi dun sa pagkalat nung tao”.
The match only went for five innings due to the official’s decision and as the score had already predicted the outcome of the game.
The Taft-based squad got off to a good start in the first inning as they were able to send three batters of the Lady Bulldogs out. However, the Lady Batters failed to capitalize in there. The score was then locked up at 0-apiece.
The NU Lady Bulldogs from Jhocson unleashed their resilience in the second inning where they hooked to runs at home to give themselves a, 6-0, lead at the end of the period. DLSU and NU both fired blanks in the third inning with the score still 6-0 favouring NU.
Lady Batters finally showed a glimpse of their potential as they climbed their way back to tie the fourth inning, 2-2.
Unfortunately, DLSU fell short in trying to change the tides of the game. Another batter from NU notched a run to cap off a 2-0 fifth inning. The score then added up to 2-10 with NU leading. The official’s then decided to end the game due to the large deficit that faced DLSU.
For coach Estipular, there is still a lot of time to gather themselves as it is only the first game of the double-round eliminations. They just have to learn from their mistakes and keep on improving.
“The next time, we have to ano lang, to talk to (the) team, our weakness kung ano yung naging cause ng aming pagkatalo so yun ang i-improve namin ngayon. Anyway it is the first round pa lang, first game, so (sa) first game marami pang mangyayari kaya atleast nakita na namin yung weakness namin ngayon so we have to plan for the next game”, Coach Estipular said.
Catch the DLSU Lady Spikers as they try to bounce back against the University of the East Lady Warriors on February 1, Monday, 1pm at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
