Lady Booters on their way to second straight finals after stalemate with FEU
Neither team scored in their football match at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Saturday, but the De La Salle University Lady Booters still came out as the real victors after a draw with the hungry football team of Far Eastern University to book their ticket to the finals.
Coming in, DLSU held a 5W-0D-2L card while FEU stood at 3W-3D-1L. Both teams were eager to come out with a win brought by the playoff implications that the match held, since the DLSU needed at least a draw to clinch a finals spot, while FEU needed a win to force a playoff with La Salle.
The match began with both teams trading possessions. La Salle was determined to carry the momentum off their last win, but FEU had other plans. The Morayta-based squad succeeded in halting La Salle’s attempts.
At the half, both teams were still held scoreless at 0-0.
Far Eastern University showed grit in the second half to try and keep their season alive. Several possessions were given for them but the Lady Tamaraws just couldn’t capitalize thanks to La Salle’s annihilating defense.
The 3 minutes added time wasn’t any help for FEU either, as La Salle clamped down on the kickers of their opponents, who were struggling all match to get a goal.
In the end, FEU’s attempts to find the net scrambled, and the match resulted in a scoreless draw, much to the delight of the Green and White.
With the result of the game as it is, the Lady Booters are now headed for the UAAP Season 80 women’s football finals, booking a rematch with the University of Santo Tomas Lady Booters. The Taft-based squad is looking for a repeat of last season when they swept the Black and Gold to capture the Season 79 title.
The title games kick off April 5 at the same venue. Be there to support the Lady Booters! Animo!
