Lady Spikers bounce back, make quick work of Lady Falcons in straight sets
It was raining service aces at the Fil-Oil Arena in San Juan.
Coming off a stunning defeat at the hands of National University Lady Bulldogs last Wednesday, De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers demolished Adamson University (AdU) in three consecutive sets, 25-13, 25-13, 26-16, to get back on the winning track in round one of the UAAP Season 78 Women’s Volleyball Tournament earlier today.
Ara Galang spearheaded the attack for DLSU with 10 points, while team captain Kim Fajardo and Mary Joy Baron hit eight markers each.
Galang only meant business, connecting with back-to-back service aces to give La Salle a comfortable lead in the second set, 19-12.
Jemma Galanza tried to bring AdU back into the game, but Mika Reyes left no door open for the Lady Falcon. Reyes rejected every hit that the spiker from Adamson could give. The Green-and-White team eventually clinched set two, 25-13.
The Lady Spikers continued to dominate as they pierced in arrows after another, pushing the lead to nine, 19-10, in the third frame.
La Salle then smelled blood and proved too much for the Lady Falcons as rookie May Luna finished the game with an offspeed, 25-16.
Baron and Carol Cerveza were on fire in the first set, delivering blows and aces for DLSU and kept the momentum throughout the match that led to a 25-13 victory in the first set.
May Roque topscored for the AdU with nine markers, while Galanza was contained to just six.
The Taft-based squad are now in second place with a 3-1 win-loss slate. Catch them as they face the University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors on February 21, Sunday, 2pm at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.
