The De La Salle University Lady Spikers proved mastery of the National University Lady Bulldogs in four thrilling set, 25-21, 25-11, 15-25-12, in a titanic collision in the second round of the UAAP Season 79 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, March 12.
MaJoy Baron was hailed as the best player of the game with 15 points. She had six blocks, two more than the whole NU team. Kim Dy top scored for La Salle with 17 markers.
With the Lady Spikers leading by two sets to none, they found themselves trailing NU in the third set, 16-11. Coach De Jesus’ crew tried to rally back into the set, but the lead was just too big to overcome as the Lady Bulldogs took the third to force another set.
DLSU looked to avert another collapse as they started out strong in the fourth frame. Fajardo fired an ace to give La Salle an early, 8-1, lead. The Green and White leaned onto their formidable floor and net defense to give themselves their biggest advantage of the game, 18-6. National U could not find any answers, making things worse due to their errors. The Taft-based squad continued to pound on the spikers from Jhocson as the former clinched their second consecutive win.
Only one Lady Bulldog scored in double figures with Jorelle Singh tallying 12 points. Alyja Santiago was contained as she only had nine. Both players combined for just three blocks for National U.
