Lady Spikers make quick work of Lady Falcons sans Kim Dy

The Dy-less De La Salle University Lady Spikers proved to be too much for Adamson University as the Green side asserted its dominance over the Lady Falcons in three straight sets, 25-13, 25-14, 25-16, in the UAAP Season 7 Women’s Volleyball Tournament, Saturday, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

DLSU grabbed their 11th win this season, 243rd overall for Head Coach Ramil De Jesus.

Last year’s Best Blocker MaJoy led the charge for her team with 13 point, including four blocks and three service aces. Dawn Macandili anchored the La Salle defense as she tallied 18 excellent digs and 12 excellent receptions.

AdU kept in step with the Taft spikers early in the game. They only trailed by one heading into the first TTO of the opening set 7-8. DLSU stepped on the gas pedal with Tin Tiamzon unleashing a power tip to push their lead to 10, 21-11.  The edge was just too big for Adamson as the Lady Spikers ran away to seal the first.

The same story happened in the second period with the San Marcelino-based crew and La Salle exchanging blows early on. DLSU pulled away again in the middle part of the set as Baron denied an AdU hit to double up their lead, 16-8. La Salle eventually left the Lady Falcons in the dust capped off by a dagger from May Luna.

The Lady Spikers finally bucked down a slow start in the third frame, allowing Coach Ramil play with his lineup. Norielle Ipac helped her team build a nine-point edge, 12-3. La Salle, though, had a tough time closing out the match. Good thing for the them, Bern Flora sent a service out to give them the victory.

DLSU is now at solo first with an 11-2 win-loss slate, and will next face perennial rivals ADMU Lady Eagles on Saturday, April 8, 4pm at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.'
