Lady Spikers overpower Lady Eagles to extend winning streak
Now that is the Animo swagger.
The DLSU Lady Spikers’ perfect record remained unblemished as the team’s dominance was in full display yet again after dispatching the Ateneo Lady Eagles in straight sets, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16 last January 12 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Defensive anchor Mika Reyes led the 3-time defending champions with 13 points, 6 of which came from blocks followed by Ara Galang who contributed 10 points along with 2 service aces.
“So same din ‘yung preparation na ginagawa namin every game. Hindi namin iniisip kung mahina o malakas o kung may panalo o walang panalo ‘yung kalaban,” said Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus after the game.
On the other hand, Alyssa Valdez tallied 11 points while Amy Ahomiro added 8 markers for the Ateneo.
This win gives La Salle an untainted 6-0 record to sit atop in the standings.
“First time namin matapat yung Ateneo since noong March. Hindi na namin nakalaban at wala kaming idea kung ano nang team ang Ateneo. Sa Seaoill games hindi naman sila nag participate so ngayon lang talaga,” added Coach Ramil.
The first set proved to be shaky for the Lady Spikers after back to back errors from the attacking line. However, the team managed to regain composure and made a comeback by forcing the Lady Eagles to trail behind 9 points at the end of the first set fora 25-16 finish.
The DLSU Lady Spikers got their rhythm at the beginning of the second set but the efforts of Alyssa Valdez halted an easy run for the team. The service errors of the Lady Spikers continued to be a hindrance but the team was able to seize the set in a close 25-20 score.
Coach de Jesus had this to say about the team’s drawback during the game,“So yun nga sabi ko mahirap lumayo pagka ganun na ang errors, mga unforced errors. Apat na sunod sunod na yun, mahirap para sa team na yung momentum natin, tayo mismo pumipigil.”
With all the confidence and the momentum with La Salle, they finally shut down any hopes of an Ateneo come back after demolishing them with a 25-16 advantage to end the match.
