Lady Spikers trounce UST Tigresses
The De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers were unfazed by unconditional weather as they shot daggers into the defending champions, University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Golden Tigesses, 19-21, 22-20, 16-14, in a three-set, heart-pumping collision of UAAP Season 78 Womens Beach Volleybal at Mall of Asia Sands by the Bay, October 17.
Cyd Demecillo sealed the deal for the Lady Spikers with a service ace, 16-14, entering the semi-finals with a five-two win-loss card.
“Nasa isip ko ay dapat ako mag-focus at kailangan ko gawin iyong tama,” Demecillo marveled after she was asked about her mindset before delivering the winning point.
Kim Fajardo sent the animo crowd off their seats as she set the equalizer for the Lady Spikers, 14-14, fuelling a 3-0 assault against Cherry Rondina and Rica Rivera’s tandem.
Fajardo and Demecillo’s duo displayed unbeatable “puso” on a hard-fought second set against the Golden Tigresses capitalizing on their key combination plays to extend the match into a third and deciding set.
The Lady Spikers could have won the first set but the España-based squad responded well with their combination plays.
“Dapat kumapit lang. Okay lang na magkamali basta pagkatapos noon bumawi,” Demecillo said.
The DLSU Lady Spikers will face the Ateneo Lady Eagles in a virtual best-of-three series in the final four later today.
