Late-game composure helps Lady Archers escape gritty Lady Tamaraws

Make it six in a row for the defending women’s basketball champs.

The Lady Archers nip the Lady Tamaraws to remain unscathed after six games in the tune of 46-43 to continue their dominance in UAAP basketball.

Despite losing the lead they established in the payoff period, the Taft-based cagers were able to showcase their championship poise to hang on to victory.

La Salle started off with an early 6-0 blast that triggered the momentum for the entire game for the Lady Archers. They built their largest cushion at twelve at 24-12 during the second period led by Nikki Garcia and Miller Ong.

Up by double digits at the early stages of the fourth, the Lady Tamaraws constant pressure on the Lady Archers helped them climb the deficit as they unleashed consecutive baskets to steal the lead from La Salle.

Down by a basket with over two minutes to go, graduating sharpshooter Trisha Piatos nails a clutch three pointer to give the lead back to La Salle.

Leading by a point with 5 seconds to play, Miller Ong misses two chances at the line to extend Lady Archers lead. A jumpball was won in favor of the defending champions that led to Piatos making two freethrows to seal the deal.

The Lady Archers will close out their first round campaign against NU Lady Bulldogs for a last year finals rematch, 1:00 pm at the Blue Eagle Gym.
