The DLSU Green Batters shutout the Adamson Soaring Falcons in seven innings, 10-0. The game ended early with an abbreviated seventh inning victory as the Batters amassed a huge lead in the seventh inning. The game was held at the Rizal Memorial Diamond last February 11.

The game began quickly for the Green Batters. They pulled off two early runs in the game. Paolo Salud scored the first run courtesy of an RBI single from Lozano. The next run then came from Lozano thanks to another RBI single, this time coming from Jonathan Park. With that, the Batters had the early lead in the first inning. The inning then ended with stifling defense from the Taft-based squad. The score was 2-0 early on.

In the second inning, the Green Batters couldn’t connect a run even though they made two hits. However, they came back to life as they entered the third inning. They were able to add three more runs in the ball game. First run came from Miñana from a bases loaded walk from Franco Hashimoto. The next run then came from a two RBI single from Salud. With his hit, he was able to bring home Paul Naguit and Salinas back to home plate. The third inning then ended with the score still favoring DLSU, 5-0.

Upon entering the middle innings, the Green-and-White team hit a plateau. Both teams were left scoreless in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Adamson’s defense was too much for the Green Batters since they weren’t able to connect with any hit. But still, the lead was still on the hands of DLSU 5-0.

The Green Batters then exploded during the seventh inning. The team bagged a total of five runs. The first run came from an RBI single of Naguit. Ignacio Escaño then reached home plate with that Naguit hit. The next two runs came from Salinas’ massive two RBI single, the hit brought home both Park and Gesmundo. With all the bases loaded, Quito Castro drew a bases loaded walk thus giving Naguit another run. The last run of the inning came from a powerful RBI double by Escaño that brought back Salinasto home plate. The game then ended with an abbreviated seventh inning win since AdU still couldn’t reach home plate, 10-0.

Defense was huge factor for the Green Batters in getting this win. The reigning pitcher of the year and rookie of the year, Boo Barandiaran, had a great pitching performance as he was able to shutout the whole Soaring Falcons team. All the fielders were also huge factors on defense. They were all lightning quick and in sync every time they went out to play defense.

Coach Joseph Orillana loved the team’s performance on both sides. He added, “Maganda yung pinukol ng pitcher namin; at the same time nadepensahan din nung taya. Since maganda yung pinukol ng pitcher dapat tulimgan din ng palo.” It was obvious that for him defense does win championships.

This shutout victory goes to show the potential the team has to win it all in the end. The DLSU Green Batters will next face the UST Golden Sox this February 14. The game will still be held at the same venue.
