The UAAP Season 76 champions are finally peaking at the moment and slowly climbing their way up the standings.

The DLSU Green Archers established their four-game winning run by dismantling the still-struggling UP Fighting Maroons, 74-53 to improve their record to 4-2 record towards the middle of UAAP Season 77.

Teng scored a season high 25 points and grabbed 11 boards. Marksman Vosotros shooting was back with his 15-point outing including three 3-pointers in four shots. Norbert Torres chipped in six markers and had 13 rebounds. Kyles Lao led the winless UP squad with 13 points.

Trailing by a minimal 3-4 in the earlier stages of the first quarter, a timeout by La Salle triggered an astonishing 17-0 run to pull away from the rattled UP Squad. The defending champions shut down UP’s offensive options and dominated the boards early, fruits of their fullcourt pressure in shaking the Maroons.

The first quarter blast was capped by back-to-back buckets from rookie Prince Rivero off nice feeds from veteran Almond Vosotros. Vosotros’ smooth turnaround jumper to beat the first quarter sealed the cushion as the Archers carried the momentum.

Third year swingman Jeron Teng had successive baskets inside during the second quarter as he punched in 13 of his 20 first half points during the canto. An avalanche of points by the Green-and-White squad erected a 50-24 margin entering the second half.

Efficient ball movement and good on-ball defense was the name of the game for La Salle in the second half to hold on to the lead. Despite scoring a dismal 24-point quarter, the Archers were still able to keep the Maroons at bay.

The Archers shot 24/52(47%) from the field compared to UP’s 27%. La Salle also outhustled the Maroons in the rebounding battle, 54-47.

The Archers will round up their Season 77 first round stint on Sunday against the UST Growling Tigers in a rematch of last year’s finals, at 4:00 PM at the Mall of Asia Arena.
