Upbeat Softbelles derailed by fiery NU
Coming off a brilliant win against Ateneo, the DLSU Softbelles came up short in carrying over the momentum after a tough 6-7 setback against National University last January 22 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Blazing hot in the first inning, the Green-and-White squad finished the opening period on a 5-0 blast. But from that point on, some untimely breaks of the game let the Lady Bulldogs sneak past the Softbelles to seize the lead and hold on till the end.
Down by a point in the late stretch of the match, the crucial play in the final inning decided whether DLSU could at least tie the match, however, it ended up short.
“Maganda yung game ng team, [yung] batting, [at] depensa. Error lang talaga yung nangyari doon sa last (inning), nag overstretch yung first base so sinave instead na out. Kung after five rounds, out na yun eh. Yung pinakacostly call ng umpire yung play na yun,” shared La Salle head coach Alex Estipular after the game.
When asked about the team’s quick 5-0 spurt to open the match, he said, “Yung 5-0 [in the first inning], nakadeliver agad sila, ‘yung momentum nandoon..It was a good start.” he added.
Despite the bottom half rank of the squad, coach has not lost his faith on the team and stressed the importance of improving and delivering on every play at hand.
“You have to keep on going, get well and play hard,.hangga’t di matapos ang 7 innings dapat tuloy tuloy. its a good thing na nagdedeliver na sila. Nagmamature na tong mga players. We have 5 rookies. So may good balance na. So next time around good game na to.
Up next for the Softbelles will be UST this coming Saturday, 10:00 am, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
“Dapat makuha na yung last two games na yan at dapat madagdagan na yung panalo,” Estipular ended.
